About

St Clare's was established in 1971 as a systemic, coeducational, regional high school catering for students from Taree, Forster/Tuncurry, Wingham, Bulahdelah, Krambach/Nabiac and Gloucester parishes. It continues a tradition of quality secondary education in the Manning/Great Lakes Region which commenced in 1926, at Taree, by the Sisters of St Joseph. The school has established a much recognised and acclaimed tradition for academic excellence with H.S.C graduates being sought after by employers and readily gaining apprenticeships, traineeships and cadetships as well as places in tertiary institutions. Throughout the 1990's 50-65% of the students in each HSC class have gained University placement. Graduates from St Clare's are to be found in leading positions in industry and commerce and have achieved the highest standards of excellence in tertiary education. St Clare's High School, Taree, is a co-educational, regional school for students from Years 7 to 12. St Clare's has established a fine reputation in the wider community for academic excellence and the teachers are committed to assisting all students to reach their academic potential. Graduates from St Clare's are directly sought after by employers and readily gain apprenticeships, traineeships and cadetships as well as places in tertiary institutions. A significant number of students participate in a range of academic endeavours including the Rotary Public Speaking Competition, the Lions Youth of the Year Competition, debating at both school and diocesan level and the Toastmasters Public Speaking program. Students are also actively involved in various national mathematics, English, science, chemistry, business studies, geography, economics and computer competitions. The Learning Support Department has a strong focus on literacy intervention and expanding opportunities for learning support services for students who require additional support in reading. This initiative incorporates Macquarie University programs including Multilit, MaqLit, Spell It, as well as the online program, Lexia, with students able to find further support with the Gulambah After School Homework Club. The Creative Arts are well represented at St Clare’s with a significant number of students participating in the Taree and District Eisteddfod in music, recitation, public speaking, dance and drama.
